I started boxing 6 or 7 years ago. I started with boxing initially, then transitioning to sparring. With sparring, you are all geared up and going at each other but it’s not a competition – not scoring points. You’re doing the motions of attack and defense but you’re using light blows. About five years ago, I wanted to keep going with Muay Thai but my body wouldn’t recover as quickly as I’d like – I was covered in bruises! I had fallen in love with the Muay Thai way of fitness but not so much with the high contact element of it. So now I work out five days a week.
Trying anything new might be scary at the start, but as the year goes on you get more used to that sport and you never want it to stop. Now football has finished I really miss everyone in my team and miss playing every weekend.
