Women & Sports: Dr. Alex Hynes, Muay Thai Boxer to Kokoda Challenge

I started boxing 6 or 7 years ago. I started with boxing initially, then transitioning to sparring. With sparring, you are all geared up and going at each other but it’s not a competition – not scoring points. You’re doing the motions of attack and defense but you’re using light blows. About five years ago, I wanted to keep going with Muay Thai but my body wouldn’t recover as quickly as I’d like – I was covered in bruises! I had fallen in love with the Muay Thai way of fitness but not so much with the high contact element of it. So now I work out five days a week.
